John Sutherland

Experience
Dr. John Sutherland has been a General Surgeon with Utah Surgical Associates since 2017. Dr. Sutherland performs over 400 surgeries annually and has served on several boards and committees and is currently the Director of Trauma Services and Co-Medical Director of the ICU for St. George Regional Hospital.
Dr. Sutherland is board certified in General Surgery and Critical Care. In addition to his time dedicated to Utah Surgical Associates, he also devotes half of his career to being the Co-Medical Director of the ICU at St. George Regional Hospital, specializing in Emergency General, Trauma, and Surgical Critical Care.
Dr. Sutherland attended Medical College of Wisconsin and graduated in 2007. He then completed his Residency at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN in 2013; during residency, he received several teaching awards including the Melvin P. Bubrick award. During his residency he also completed a Critical Care Fellowship at the University of Utah in 2011. In 2017 he earned the title of F.A.C.S.
Dr. Sutherland enjoys flying and spending quality time with his family, and in his spare time his hobbies include mountain biking, mountaineering, rock climbing, and playing the trombone, bagpipes, and the piano.
