Robotics surgery are complex, minimally invasive procedures performed with precision, flexibility and control
Robotics and surgery go together when surgeons perform a computer-assisted or robotically-assisted surgery. Today it is very common for robotic systems to assist surgeons during their procedures.
Laparoscopic Surgery
Laparoscopic surgery, also referred to as keyhole surgery, is an operative procedure performed by a surgeon using a fiber optic laparoscope with an attached video camera and other surgical instruments to diagnose and/or to treat a type of surgical disease. This kind of surgery is a minimally invasive surgical technique because the laparoscope and other surgical instruments are inserted through small incisions instead of a bigger traditional incision.
da Vinci Robot
Another minimally invasive option for routine and complex surgeries is the da Vinci Surgical System, which some also call the da Vinci Robot. Surgeons also perform their operations through a few small incisions in this procedure.
Several surgeons choose the da Vinci Robot because it allows them to work with greater vision, accuracy and control. The system follows the hand movements of the surgeon but does so with more precision through micro-movements. The da Vinci System takes surgeons further than their human bodies allow because the tiny wristed instruments twist and arch much better than the human wrist and it has a 3D high-definition camera that lets surgeons see more clearly than with just their human eyes.
Although it is a refined robotic platform and is often simply called a “robot”, this surgical option is completely safe to use because it can never operate on its own. Your surgeon is always 100% in control of the da Vinci System during surgery.
